A breeze from the sea
Two-channels video installation, colour, sound, 4 min. 30 sec.
This project memorializes my grandfather, Siamack, who battled cancer for twenty years. After his passing, he rejected a traditional funeral, asking instead for his ashes to be scattered in water. In response, I imagined a funerary ritual that blends Iranian cultural practices with the Québec landscape, reinterpreting the Persian garden as a sanctuary where his spirit might endure.
This video diptych reflects my personal space for mourning while exploring life, death, and the unanswered questions about my grandfather’s life and our shared heritage. Shifting natural spaces — marked by seasonal change — become symbols of regeneration and impermanence, yet remain places of calm and refuge.
